Our Beef Program

We believe in the use of sustainable farming practices, and the power of well managed cattle to harvest all the goodness of sun and soil, turning good grass, and clean water into a truly local source of protein all while conserving and enhancing our natural ecosystem.

Q. How are your cattle raised, are they confined to feedlots?

Our herd spends the growing season rotating through our lush pastures, while winters are also spent in the open air with freedom to roam, lots of natural tree windbreaks, warm straw bedding as needed.

Q. Are your cattle grass fed?

The cattle always have access to grass and pasture. In the winter grass comes in the form of local hay.   The final 4-6 months before harvest their grass diet is supplemented with grains to help give the meat flavor and marbling.

Q. Is your meat antibiotic free?

Yes, but that does not mean that we do not use antibiotics when an animal is sick or in pain. Our guiding principal is 'as little as possible, as much as necessary'

Practicing antibiotic stewardship is as much a piece of the puzzle as environmental stewardship! All cattle sold in Canada for meat that have been treated with antibiotics must undergo a ‘withdrawal period’ which is a specific period of time where no antibiotics can be used prior to harvest, ensuring that there is zero antibiotic residue. We work hard to practice good management to avoid ever having to use antibiotics, and in the rare case they are necessary, we allow for more than double the mandatory withdrawal period.

We do not use antibiotics to enhance cattle growth nor do we use growth hormones or implants.
